Extremeist beliefs and narratives use manipulative rhetorical strategies to exploit grievances, emotions, and misinformation/disinformation to recruit individuals to radical ideologies. To combat this, we will explore how counter-narratives, strategic messages designed to challenge extremist ideologies, attempt to undermine extreme persuasive appeals and offer constructive alternatives.

To gain insight on how these tools are crafted and why they’re essential, we must understand the objectives of extremist rhetoric used to persuade individuals, in order to effectively build counter-narratives that reduce the spread of radical ideologies, and encourage critical thinking and social cohesion.
